Linux

MetaHumans are designed and developed to support a wide range of hardware and platforms with scalable quality from high-end cinematic experiences down to mobile devices. The goal is to have a single, scalable MetaHuman that can be used across different hardware and platforms without overly complex setups and content management.

The information in this page outlines Epic's MetaHuman specification when MetaHuman Presets and their individual components are being developed. This information is useful when targeting devices to know generally what each level of detail (LOD) means for the number of polygons, hair grooms, bones, and much more.

Level of Detail Guide for MetaHumans

Components that make up MetaHumans are created using the following specifications as a guide for individual LODs, but does not mean it will be exactly these numbers for each or that all LODs will be used. Most MetaHumans should stay near this general quality range, but that can vary depending on the character's attributes, their clothing choices, and whether all LODs are used.

The table below highlights the highest quality levels supported across a platform. Use this as a guide when deciding where you want to make scalable changes to your MetaHuman for a platform.

For example, you may not want or need a MetaHuman's max texture size or hair strands for grooms. Knowing where the ceiling is for each platform in terms of LOD support affords you the flexibility to make choices that best suit the needs of your projects.
